Side event: combating climate change and in Mediterranean and African countries and in the Middle East

This side event is co-organized by ParisTech, registered as RINGO (Research and Independent Non-Governmental Organization to the United Nations) through its Chair Prospective modeling for sustainable development and by the Association of Sustainable Ecological Engineering Development (ASEED). It aims to highlight and analyze the issues and the complexity of the planning of low carbon power systems in Mediterranean and African countries and in the Middle East.
Experts will discuss how this region envisages the future of their energy and conservation systems, in the Paris Agreement context. Lessons from modeling exercises and technological innovations will illustrate the debate about climate policies, regional integration, energy resources, and the valuation of the ecosystemic services:

- Jui Wen CHEN, ASEED: JW Eco-Technology – Carbon-capturing, anti-global warming, a new revolutionary type of green economy. A cost-effective solution to generate water in desert
- Jean Charles Hourcade, CIRED, France: Conclusion
Discussion (30 minutes)
This side event, which aims to provide a forum for high-quality exchanges to consider the plausibility of future energy systems and the challenges of their deployment, will be the opportunity to demonstrate the contribution and interest of prospective modeling, to establish a dialogue between policy makers, experts and scientists. Beyond this side event will contribute to the reflection on the direction of public and private strategies, in an accompanying process of climate negotiations.
Side event: Long term strategies towards full decarbonisation – The role of knowledge sharing networks (Session 2 of the Long-term Strategy Workshop)

Summary: The International Research Network for Low Carbon Societies (LCS-RNet) brought together researchers from both developing and developed countries to consider scenarios and options related to decarbonisation and low-carbon development pathways, as a background to national discourse as well as international scrutiny of NDCs.
Recent results were presented by leading researchers and discussed by PR Shukla, IPCC Chair WG III &Antonio Navarra, CMCC, Italy.
